How much would a 1 carat diamond cost?Don't worry if you do not know much about diamonds - we are here to help! In some senses the answer to this question is how long is a piece of string. Please visit our easy to follow pricing page to compare prices for all sizes and grades. What do most people spend on an engagement ring?I often think that there are three main brackets. Many people fit into the 2500 and less bracket and we like to try and offer a really competitive offering for this range. Customers spending 3000 to 6000 Euro do really well with us – saving perhaps 1000 – 3000 Euro over Irish retail prices. Seemingly, those with a budget of over 6000 (we have had clients for diamonds around $500,000) make the biggest savings. Shops tend to have a huge mark-up on larger diamonds and we simply demolish them. A client recently saved 20,000 Euro purchasing with us. Click here for more loose diamond pricing data. What is the best clarity?Clarity ranges from IF (internally flawless) to I1 (inclusions are visible to the naked eye). You can do very well with SI diamonds however most people go for VS clarity. You should read our section on the 4 C's and if you would like to talk over the differences with someone then please call us - it is not really one we can deal with by email! It is very worthwhile to call and ask about this because we might recommend different clarities for different diamond shapes. For example, because the emerald cut has so few facets the diamond must be a higher clarity because otherwise they might be visible to the naked eye. The princess cut on the other hand can achieve perfection in spades with SI1 or SI2 because it 'works' in a different way to emerald cut diamonds. Do you have showrooms that we can come and see your stock?Dublin and other major cities in Ireland are full of jewellers with a large amount of inventory. Most people who buy from us actually get ideas from local shops before deciding. Having said this, we have a significant inventory ourselves and you can arrange to view any diamond that would interest you at a diamond consultation. In addition, we work closely with Irish Goldsmiths. Are your diamonds certified?Yes, we only sell certified diamonds from tier 1 certifiers, namely GIA (Gemological Institute of America), IGI (International gemological institute), HRD What’s the difference between platinum and white gold?Good question! These are the differences: Premium – Platinum is really expensive these days. In fact it is more than twice as expensive as gold. Did you know that a ton of ore is mined to get 1gr of platinum. Now do you see? Stronger – Yes, it is slightly stronger but its like having an extra thick leg on a chair – it is not really needed if the chair is made properly. Gold is not as strong but it is strong enough for all your jewellery needs. It retains a better colour – White gold is always coated with Rhodium (rhodium plating) because the natural colour is an off-white. The rhodium will wear off over time meaning that you need to have it redone to keep your jewellery looking white and new. This might cost you 40-60 Euro each year. Platinum, on the other hand, does not require plating but they say it goes dark over time. My theory is that this does not really apply to a ring because it is always rubbing against clothes and skin which keeps the good finish. If it does dull then a quick polish will sort it out and your jeweller should do this for free if he/she is nice! Heavier – Platinum is much more dense than gold so much so that you can feel the difference in weight on your hand. Gold is lighter What is your return policy? There are diamonds that we buy from suppliers with whom we have alongstanding relationship and therefore we could return to them if required. In general, however we are purchasing at such great prices for you that a credit note is more likely - this, of course, is the industry standard for jewellery. Talk to us if this is a concern. As long as everyting is clearly understood before you make your purchase there will be no problem with any eventuality. For example, there are instances where we were buying a rare diamond and had a pre-agreement with our suppliers that should our client not wish to keep it we could return it for a full refund. Of course you can return your diamond if there is a problem with it or there is a manufacturing defect in the jewellery. Everything we do on this site and during diamond consultations is aimed at ensuring that you understand exactly the perfect damond to buy. Do you sell other diamond jewellery?Yes, we can make or source any diamond jewellery for you. We work with the best craftsmen in Ireland and the US who can make any jewellery you require.
What is the most popular setting design?Definitely Design 1 and Design 6 are the most popular designs for round diamonds. Apart from this more and more people are opting for really fancy designs such as you can see from our jeweller in the US. Classic designs such as tapered baguettes also remain consistent. Why is a D colour more expensive? This is because it is the very highest grade. Price for most grades of colour and clarity increase in a linear fashion but with D colours or Internally Flawless diamonds there is an unnatural jump due to the complete rarity of the diamonds. That said, we often supply D colour diamonds because … we can! Why did my local jeweller say the colour is G-H?Many jewellers still try to sell uncertified or “in-house” certified diamonds and who knows what grade they really are. Therefore, the description usually goes something like: “This diamond is G-H colour” or, worse still: “This diamond is G-I colour”! Only one of the best certifications can ensure that you are getting the diamond you hoped for. You should never buy an uncertified diamond.
How can you guarantee that the diamond I am buying is what you say it is?Mostly we sell certified diamonds and mainly we use GIA – the gemological institute of America. Fraser Brown, who conducts all diamond consultations is a diamond grader, trained by GIA. The only times we don’t sell certified diamonds is if they are small or maybe something very difficult to find where we might have to buy the loose diamond for a client.
